Is soul Winning A Command? PDF Print E-mail

With out a doubt. Itís not only a command, but itís the

heart of God, the heart of Christianity. The purpose of

the church, and the purpose of every one that names the

name of Christ. Yet, according to a survey done by Bill

Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ, only 2% of those

that claim they are Christians actively share their faith.

Only 5% of the evangelical community ever in their

lifetime lead any one to Christ.

We have changed the purpose of the church to one of

ďgoing to churchĒ We do countless church programs

that keep the members busy maintaining the church. Iím

not referring to the body of Christ, but to the church

building and the religious activities that weíve created to

replace the real work of the church, that of seeking the

lost, making disciples and then sending them out to seek

the lost.

Even though soul winning is a command (the Great

Commission), and many will acknowledge that it is a

command, at the same time they seem to think that itís

somebody elses job, or a special gift for only a few.

Anybodyís job but theirs. Iím not trying to say that

everyone in the church thinks this way, but from the

responses I get as I try to recruit soul winners, Iíd say

that this is the condition of many in the church today.

Not wanting to dwell on the negative, I will begin to

speak to those of you who have made a decision to obey

the command. To those who realize that everyone who

names them selves as Christian is required to share their

faith.

Matthew 28:18 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the Son,

and of the Holy Ghost.

V20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I

have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always,

even unto the end of the world. Amen

Go! The first command is to go, to get busy. If youíre a

follower of Jesus then everything that he says is a

command. Christian is an action word, pew warming is a

no no.

Teach all nations. Of their need of a savior. That they

are lost and going to hell. They really donít know and

many think that they are going to heaven by their own

good works.

Baptize. Itís an act of obedience, a mark of submission,

an identification with the burial and resurrection of our

Lord.

Teach them to observe. This is the discipleship process.

Teaching them to go, teach, baptize, and teach. To

reproduce!

This is the call, the command to all those that believe.

Obedience is the evidence of your relationship with the

Lord.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not

the things which I say?

47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings,

and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged

deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the

flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that

house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a

rock.

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that

without a foundation built an house upon the earth;

against which the stream did beat vehemently, and

immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers

only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer,

he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a

glass:

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and

straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty,

and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer,

but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his

deed.

I want to be totally honest at this point. I never wanted

to go out soul winning. It went totally against everything

that I was at the time. It was completely out of my

character. I was nervous, untrained and ineffectual. It

took everything I had to speak those words the first

time. When I said Jesus to the first stranger it sounded

like some alien language coming from my lips. But itís

not a matter of how I feel, or what I want to do. Itís a

command and I knew that I had to do it.

Because I knew that soul winning was a must, I joined a

class that taught me how to witness. I began preparing

my self to do the work that Christ has commanded us to

do. Excuses are for those that donít want to do the

work.

Iíll also admit at this time that I witnessed for many

years with little results. Pastor Tommy Barnett said

ďrevelation without education leads to frustration.Ē I

had the desire, I had some education, but not the

method that we use today. What weíre going to teach

you in this class is how to bring a person to the place

where they realize their need of a savior. They will

never see their need of a savior until we tear away the

mask of their self-righteousness and reveal to them the

wretchedness that lies within their hearts. Until they see

through Gods law that they are lost in their sins and

worthy of judgment. Guilty, guilty, guilty!!!!

If youíll commit yourself to staying with this class for a

time, we will train you to be an effective witness for

Christ. Witnessing will become so second nature to you

that youíll witness everywhere you go. No more fear, no

more hesitation. Witnessing will become fun and

exciting.

John 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear

much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

And thatís exactly whatís going to happen if you stay

with us through this training.

Remember, the church is a place of preparation. Itís the

place we go out from.

Ephesians 4: 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some,

prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and

teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the

ministry
, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither

the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

14 ∂ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling

into a far country, who called his own servants, and

delivered unto them his goods.

15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two,

and to another one; to every man according to his

several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16 Then he that had received the five talents went and

traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

17 And likewise he that had received two, he also

gained other two.

18 But he that had received one went and digged in the

earth, and hid his lord's money.

19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh,

and reckoneth with them.

20 And so he that had received five talents came and

brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst

unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them

five talents more.

21  His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and

faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few

things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter

thou into the joy of thy lord.

22  He also that had received two talents came and

said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold,

I have gained two other talents beside them.

23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful

servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will

make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the

joy of thy lord.

24 Then he which had received the one talent came and

said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man,

reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where

thou hast not strawed:

25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the

earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked

and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I

sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to

the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have

received mine own with usury.

28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto

him which hath ten talents.

29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he

shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall

be taken away even that which he hath.

30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer

darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Are you an unprofitable servant? What are you doing

for the Kingdom of God? If the Lord returned right now,

right this minute and examined you, what would he see?

Is it time to repent, to give your heart to Jesus. To finally

make Him Lord.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be

in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your

own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be

reprobates?

Please examine this seriously. Donít let another

day go by. Get right and get busy.
